Watthour Meter

When did the Charlotte Power Company cease operation?
I have a lamp made out of a Duncan watthour meter with a brass ID plate from the Charlotte Power Company (no date). Duke Energy is the current power supplier for Charlotte, NC but I can't find out ANYTHING about this supposed CPC, or when Duke might have taken them over.
Does the lamp say Charlotte OR CPC?
CPC is the old Catawba Power Company.
Once upon a time a state could have several electric companies.
As areas grew, the demand for power began to out-weigh the means to produce it.
Smaller companies would merge their forces to be able to afford to build new power plants to service their areas.
The population grew, towns became cities, the demand for new power plants outgrew the abilities of these little power companies.
All companies within a state joined to form a single power source.
This has all happened in OUR life time.
The Duke company began in 1900 as the Catawba Power Company by Dr. Walker Gill Wylie.
In need of additional funding to further his ambitious plan for construction of a series of hydroelectric power plants, Wylie convinced James Buchanan Duke to invest in the Southern Power Company, founded in 1905, which later became known as Duke Power.
In 1988, Nantahala Power & Light Co., which served southwestern North Carolina, was purchased by Duke and is now operated under the Duke Power - Nantahala Area brand. Duke Power merged with PanEnergy in 1997 to form Duke Energy.
People do not realize what it takes to power up a single state.
Georgia Power next door owns and operates 20 hydroelectric dams, 14 fossil fueled generating plants and two nuclear power plants, which provide electricity to more than 2 million customers.
Georgia has more dams but check out the power plants in North Carolina!

Duke Power services 4 MILLION - with assets in the United States, Canada and Latin America.
It is "the biggest nuclear power company in America."
Go Duke!
