How does the LTC3108-1 boost an input voltage of 20 mV to a 2.5+ volt output voltage?
How does the LTC3108-1 boost an input voltage of 20 mV to a 2.5+ volt output voltage? Please be specific. Thanks!!
Interesting part, it kind of answers your other question. But I can't understand how it starts up. I've read through the datasheet and sort of understand how it operates once it is operating. It synchronously chops the 20 mV signal to AC, applies that to a transformer, and rectifies the output of the transformer to generate up to 5 volts DC.
But how does it get enough voltage for it's internal circuits to start operating, that I don't see. Vaux, pin 1, is the power for the part. some text implies you put in power there, but others imply that the chip supplies power to that pin.
edit. I think I see it, roughly. the transformer and some internal circuitry form an oscillator. The oscillator is unique in that it is powered by a 20 mV signal that is amplified by the transformer, rectified, and used to power the oscillator. So I think the oscillator starts up, like most oscillators, from a random noise pulse that gets amplified and is enough to boost the DC voltage a bit, which gets fed back to the loop, boosting the voltage a bit each time until it gets to 5 volts or so.
