Tips To Recondition 14.4 Volt Batteries
While all batteries lose some charge over time, car batteries and other large batteries require reconditioning due to a process caused by a gas build-up on the plates that prevents the battery from holding a charge. Purchase special equipment to recondition these batteries. Use a cycling process to recondition other types of batteries, such as rechargeable nickel-cadmium (NiCd) batteries. This type of battery drains and recharges over a period of cycles. Use a battery analyzer for reconditioning these batteries. Start your reconditioning process by testing a fully charged battery first.
1.Connect a set of leads from the dell xps m1330 laptop battery to the leads from the battery analyzer. Battery leads must be constructed of a 16-gauge wire or stronger. Avoid crossing leads. Hook the red lead to the positive (+) terminal and the black to the negative (-). If the clips are unable to attach to the battery posts securely, solder them.
2. Name the test in the analyzing software. Choose the battery type and enter its capacity amp hours. The amp hours are found on the battery's cover.
3.Determine the number of volts per cell in your battery. An alkaline battery has 1.5 volts per cell, NiCd or nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) battery has 1.2 volts, lithium primary, 3 volts, lithium ion or polymer with either 3.6 or 3.7 volts per cell, carbon zinc, 1.5-volts and sealed lead acid (SLA) batteries have 2 volts per cell.
4.Divide battery volts, 14.4 in this case, by the number of volts per cell of the battery type. Enter this number in the "cells" field of analyzer software.
5. Press start and wait until the program completes the test. Save the file.
6.Drain the battery until it has approximately 1 volt per cell before beginning the reconditioning process.
7.Choose a new test name in the software. Choose the dell m1530 battery type and enter the capacity amp hours. Enter the number of cells in your battery in the "cells" field.
8.Compute the test amps by dividing the battery's amp hours by 20. This provides a deep reconditioning and a margin of safety for the battery. Divide the amp hours by 10 if you choose.
9.Multiply the number of cells in the battery by 0.4 volts for the "Test Cutoff V" entry. The test ceases at the cutoff number. For instance, if your battery is an alkaline, the test ends at 21.6.
10. Press start and save the file when the program completes its work.
11. Recharge the battery to full charge.
Tips & Warnings
* Avoid reconditioning the same battery more than three times in a single month. It will shorten the battery's life. Try to re-charge the battery at different levels. This "exercises" your battery.
* Be very careful when attaching your leads. Don't cross them or it could result in serious injury. Do not attempt to recondition a dell latitude d630 battery that is leaking, has bulges or other visible defects.

I wouldn't recommend this because a charger isn't a power supply and it's not regulated.
Buy a small, regulated 12 volt converter from Radio Shack or a similar retailer. Check your amp for the power consumed and make sure the converter is up to the task.
