The importance of UPS system

Uninterruptible power supply system (UPS system) is very important especially for those businesses who don't want their power supply to be interrupted.  The primary role of any UPS is to provide short-term power when the input power source fails.

This UPS system is an electrical apparatus that provides emergency power to a load when the input power source, typically the utility mains, fails. A UPS differs from an auxiliary or emergency power system or standby generator is that it will provide instantaneous or near-instantaneous protection from input power interruptions by means of one or more attached batteries and associated electronic circuitry for low power users, and or by means of diesel generators and flywheels for high power users.

There is no other way to beat this un-avoided thing unless you have your own set of power supply.  Yes!, your own set of power supply that will provide electricity even in the moments of power black-outs. This might be very ideal for each of us but this will greatly help us, a lot, in times of power supply failures.

One type of UPS is the line interactive UPS. This is similar in operation to a standby UPS, but with the addition of a multi-tap variable-voltage autotransformer. This is a special type of electrical transformer that can add or subtract powered coils of wire, thereby increasing or decreasing the magnetic field and the output voltage of the transformer. There are also rack mount UPS products in the market that you can have. With these, you are assured that you have the best UPS system.

There are times that our power supply fails due to some circumstances. This can't be avoided. We cannot always blame the power supplier because of these interruptions. Emergencies are always there, that's why we always need to be ready, at all times.

For us to know more about this very important apparatus here are some of the most basic information that we need to know aside from its primary role that I mentioned above.

The on-battery runtime of most uninterruptible power sources is relatively short—5–15 minutes being typical for smaller units—but sufficient to allow time to bring an auxiliary power source on line, or to properly shut down the protected equipment.

So what are you waiting for? Isn't it amazing to have this one-of-a-kind equipment? Get one now and enjoy all of its benefits. Good luck!

How do I make an autotransformer?

I want to make a variable transformer for my electronics hobbies. I plan to wind the wire around a straight core, then sand off the insulation on one side and use a wiper to select the number of windings directly on the primary, no secondary coil. First, will that work, or does the core need to loop? Second, how many windings is appropriate for 120VAC, 60Hz in and 0-120VAC, 2.5A out?

I am a novice at transformers in general, but I don't have any existing transformers that give me just the right voltages that I need. Any help is appreciated!

For good efficiency, the core does need to loop, yes.

you need to remove the insulation such that the turns do not short, and your wiper may not short two turns together.

Number of turns is complicated and depends on the core and core material. If you are using an existing transformer and removing the secondary, just use the same number of primary turns the transformer had. Wiper design will be tricky, specially with the safety issues involved.

You may be a lot better off just taking an existing transformer and modifying the secondary winding as needed. This will be a lot easier, safer, and permanent. Count the number of turns as you take them off, and keep the same volts/turn ratio. If you lower the voltage (increasing the current), up the wire size. And vv.
