Pull Down Faucets - Pros And Cons
What A Pull Down Faucet Can Do
Not every faucet will be able to wash all the inside of the sink with direct stream. And what faucet can wash a pot higher than its own upper arch? What are the faucets that can fill pots on the counter top or a watering can on the floor? There is that category we hear more and more often of – the pull-down faucets.
A pull-down faucet is normally a high arch faucet whose spray head is connected to the hose. The hose moves freely through the spout giving the spray head much more flexibility to direct the stream or spray to the desired point. Detach the spray head from the spout and pull it what the length of the hose allows you.
This way you can use the stream to wash all the grounds from the bottom of the sink directly into the drain without even the need of using cloth or sponge.
What's The Gain From The Pull Down Function
From the day you install the pull-down kitchen faucet, you will be able to maneuver the spray head so that you can reach even beyond the sink. You may not need any other pot filler faucet since the stream from a good faucet will be possible to direct even to a place where the pot to be filled can be conveniently placed. That can be as well the surface of the cooker sparing you some carrying of full pots from one place to another in the kitchen. But that depends altogether whether the faucet will be installed in the proximity of the cooker.
Tell me what you did earlier when you had to fill a bucket for washing the floor or watering can for, let's say, your winter garden? I used to keep a length of a hose in the cabinet to be worked on the end of the faucet when the stream had to be directed down to something on the floor. Sometimes, when the bucket was smaller, it was possible to place it right in the sink for filling. And then there was some effort required to get it back from under the faucet because it was not always possible to get the faucet out of the way.
But now this looks completely different. Just take the nozzle, pull it down and pour the water as you please.
So these features are, to my mind, a direct gain from installing a good pull-down faucet:
- wash vegetables, meat or fish by directing the stream in a convenient way
- wash the whole inside of the sink with the stream
- fill easily pots on the counter or cooker
- fill easily buckets and cans on the floor
- direct a fountain upwards for a drink
On good faucets, there will be a button right on the spray head allowing you to toggle between stream and spray.
Some models are touch sensitive. The water toggles on or off with a single touch. More to that, in a good faucet, touches are distinguished from grips.
What Pull Down Faucets Cannot Do
Let's not forget, however, that there is no perfect thing. Also the pull-down faucets will not serve quite every occasion. Let's try to model some situations where some other type of faucet may turn out to be of better help.
If you what to continue working with preps while a pot is being filled, you probably need a wall mount pot filler faucet. The pull-down faucet will allow you to fill the pot but keep you busy holding it. You cannot get it stay there when you release it.
Then let's assume you want to fill a pot that is placed somewhere else but not directly inside the sink. Then you need to pull the nozzle over the edge of the sink until you reach the pot. You do not want to do that with the water on. So you will have to keep control also over the handle. The whole operation may not be too elegant and convenient. If you plan this type of job to be done often enough then I would recommend either a faucet with a side sprayer or pot filler. Side sprayers normally have a button that toggles the water flow, so you can have it off while moving.
Standard Features Of A Good Pull-Down Faucet
When you see a faucet that is leak proof for lifetime, do not take that as a merit. Being leak proof and having a lifetime warranty is a norm for most branded faucets. They are easy to install, their handles operate precisely, they are easy to clean, and their pull-down spray heads sit snugly in their docks.
But the companies now work hard to produce faucets that not only do what is expected but also surpass the expectations in many areas. Some manufacturers embed diamond on the sealing surfaces to make the leak proof faucets even more leak proof. Some use magnets for holding the spray heads in place in an even more reassuring manner. Installation has been made easy as never before.
Conclusions
Always stick to a branded faucet. Do not allow yourself to be allured into a cheap deal. Remember that cheap is always cheap, and those pay much who buy cheap.
The pull-down kitchen faucets can be good and over-delivering helpers in your kitchen. But it might be helpful to weigh out first what the main kitchen routines are, and whether a pull-down faucet will find its place in the overall picture.
About the Author
Great kithcen faucets here. And this one is my favorite, because I like its sculptural look and the smart solutions it features.
can i pull trailers and other yard equip. with a zero turn if i use some common sense?
If i were to pull some of my many tow behind items with a zero turn and not turn too tightly would it work?
Sure. The only danger is turning too sharp and bending a tow bar on the accessory equipment.
