Output Current from a Variac Transformer?
I was told recently that in a Variac Transformer the maximum current stated is the maximum current and even reducing the voltage will not result in an increase in the output current. Is this a correct statement? And if possible please back this up with a referencable source.
Cheers
Lance
That's correct. The output current rating is constant eventhough the power delivered is less at lower settings. The current that can be passed through the brush without excessive heating and the current capacity of the winding (or any part of it) are both factors.
The document linked below should help.
