What are Isochronic Tones?

Isochronic tones are produced by using a single spaced beat which is manually controlled to get the desired frequency. It is a fairly new entrant to the field of brainwave entrainment yet it is overtaking binaural beats as the preferred tool for influencing brainwave frequencies. Isochronic beats is known to be particularly efficient when used together with visual stimuli or in lieu of it.
The theory of Brainwave Entrainment
The theory of using isochronic beats for brainwave entrainment is very simple; the varying frequencies of these isochronic tones are used to impact the release of specific brain chemicals or neurotransmitters which in turn lead to the desired behavioral effects. Usually a single frequency is used through out the tone. When subjected to a consistent frequency for a certain period time, the brain wave frequency synchronizes with the tone due to a principle known as frequency following response.
This trait of the brain can be used to control and produce different emotional and physical states. Certain frequencies are known to stimulate the secretion of important neurotransmitters such as serotonin and endorphins which can have a relaxing and highly beneficial impact on the human body.
Different frequencies are incorporated to achieve varying results; for instance the lower frequencies termed as alpha and theta are used to induce sleep and relaxation. On the other hand, the higher frequencies do the exact opposite by stimulating the endocrine and adrenal glands. So these frequencies can be used to achieve various results such as lowering depression, increasing concentration, augmenting problem solving ability, pain management etc.
Isochronic Tones vs. Binaural Beats
One of the primary advantages of using isochronic tones instead of binaural beats for brainwave entrainment is the fact that these beats can be used without the use of headphones; however it is imperative that the tones be heard at the correct volume to maintain their efficacy. You can also use a standard music system to listen to isochronic beats however ensure that the volume is loud enough to block out other noises in the background yet it should not cause headaches. My preference is still to use headphones to filter out external interference for maximum benefit.
There are also other benefits to using isochronic tones over binaural beats; apart from the ease of usage, isocnhronic tones are easier to compose than binaural beats. Also, since binaural beats comprise of two separate tones which are played in each ear they fail to target both the hemispheres of the brain. But when you use isochronic beats, you are providing the same stimuli to both ears which means that these tones can work individually on each ear affecting both the hemispheres simultaneously.
When the effects of the two stimuli: binaural beats and isochronic tones were compared through an EEG it was found that the isochronic tones can penetrate the brain deeper than the binaural beats, so when you use the former the effect on the emotional or physical state of being is heightened.
How to listen to Isochronic Tones?
Sometimes certain tones are composed at a low volume so you may have to crank up the music system to make them audible, not listening to the beats at the proper volume may also mar their effect. Normally, it is recommended that you use headphones to listen to active isochronic tones but if you want to hear the background tones you can very well use a standard music system.
Isochronic tones are being successfully employed to boost motivation, help in building better relationships, improve confidence, reduce stress, induce better sleep, improve, health and memory, greatly assist meditative practices, enhance psychic and spiritual health and awareness, and dissolve mental and emotional blocks.

how to determine bass,treble,mid in a tone-control circuit?
my instructor asked us to find/design a tone control circuit with a spec. of +/- 20db in bass,treble,mid with volume control. I found some circuits here on the web with the same specs but my instructor asks for a documentation. My problem is how can I compute for the value of the dB in these circuits? thanks in advance.
leave the volume control alone for changing the loudness db.
use a separate tuner with several capacitors in the circuit.
you're not changing the db but changing the frequencies. Xc=1/2(pi)(f)(C) where C is the ufd of the capacitor and f is the frequency you selected. high frequency 2000Hz for treble and low frequency 200Hz for bass
