I replaced My window regulator on driver side front window and now it goes down but not up.?

I have a 1999 Olds alero. I just got a new regulator and i bolted it on and when i hit the switch to go down, the window goes down. but when i hit the switch up, it will budge a bit and stop. i can pull the window up a bit manually and hit the switch and the motor makes a noise for a second and stops. It also only goes about half way up no matter what.

did you replace the motor too ? what was the window doing before you replaced the regulator?
