Useful Tips To Save Power

 

More power is wasted daily in America than in any other nation worldwide. And with all the troubles our world is having today with pollution and the depletion of our ozone layer, we must help conserve energy, which in turn will help our planet.

 

Here, we are going to talk about a few things that you and I can do to not simply save power but save a little money in the process. These are really easy things that anyone can do, you merely have to make the decision to do them in order to help the Earth and ourselves.

 

Merely turning off the lights every time you go out of a room in your house is one of the simplest things you can do to avoid wasting power. Majority of people will exit a room for 10 to 15 minutes to go to the kitchen to prepare a snack or to do something else and they leave the light on in the room they left because they will be coming back in to the room after a few minutes. Leaving the room empty with the lights switched on can result in as much as thirty minutes or more of consumed energy if done a couple of times a day. Even though it may not look like much, the fact is millions of people are doing the exact same thing daily. If you add up the minutes for the year, that would be approximately 182 hours of electricity just for one light in one room for each soul that does this. Then try to multiply that by just 1 million souls. That totals to 182,000,000 hours of energy being squandered a year on just one light.

 

One most wasteful habit that numerous people do is turn the lights on when walking into a room. It's something many of us do out of habit. I often catch myself doing it too. Nevertheless, there could be adequate light, maybe sunlight, coming into a room. And still, we come into a brightly lit room and flip the light switch to on. And on top of that, because of the natural light coming in, we tend to forget we turned the room light on in the first place and leave it on for the rest of the day. You have to make a deliberate effort to leave the lights flipped off if there is enough natural light in a room.

 

One huge problem is people leaving things like television and radios turned on the entire day even if they are not in the same room. When I come visit my mom, I have to remind her to turn the TV off since she would leave it running even though she's not watching. This is a great waste of electrical energy. Thus, if you are not watching the telly, simply turn it off.

 

These are only a few things that we all can do really easily but can have a big effect on our efforts to not waste power and to save our planet. If every person makes just a tiny effort to do these very simple things, it can add up to make a great difference.

Losing internet connection in power save mode?

I'd really like to set my CPU to power save after a certain period of down time, but when I do, my internet connection gets cut and I have to command->ipconfig /release-renew in order to get it going again. How can I prevent this from happening? I'm running WinXPSP2 and have cable internet. Thanks.

On the network card uncheck the box beside "allow to shut off to save power"
