Latex Free Gloves - Why Medical Professionals Are Switching To Them
The medical industry is vitally important to the health and well-being of billions of people all over the world. Medical professionals are responsible for taking care of patients in their office or in the emergency room. To avoid cross infection between staff and patients certain precautions are necessary and this includes the wearing of disposable gloves. In the past natural rubber latex gloves were used but an increased exposure to latex has caused many staff to develop an allergy. The occurence of this allergy has also increased in the general population.
Latex allergy has become a serious problem and more and more doctors' offices and hospitals are switching to latex free gloves. These allergies include irritant contact dermatitis and allergic contact dermatitis. The symptoms include the development of a rash, itchy skin, respiratory problems and some patients will even suffer shock. It has been estimated that anywhere from 5-10 percent of medical professionals have developed this allergy during their career.
The majority of latex free gloves that are available are made of vinyl or nitrile. For the most part, though, these gloves have not replaced the use of latex gloves in surgical procedures because they do not have the same degree of tactile sensitivity. Another major reason why not all hospitals or doctor offices have switched to these gloves is their cost. In an environment where everyone is trying to save money, many institutions just do not have the finances to pay for these gloves right now.
If you do not know whether you are allergic to latex, visiting an allergy doctor will help you find out. The doctor can test your body for an allergy to the material and inform you of the results.

How can I get 2-pin tactile switches for my old Sony Discman?
I've had the thing for 15 years. It works perfect, but a few tact push switches won't respond. They measure 6mm wide by 6mm long by 5.0mm tall. Do I call Sony?
If you are talking about the rubber buttons like on a game pad, then sometimes tou can take the unit apart (carefully and with the correct tools) and remove the ruber buttons an clean under them
(A pencil eraser rubbed over the are where the button sat is perfect for this For this type of switch it works because the rubber button is impregnated with carbon -- the circuitry snes whether the button is up or down by a change in resistance -- over time microscopic piece of the switch transfer to the circuit board and short out the 2 silver (or gold plated) contact pads under the button -- the circuit then thinks the button is ALWAYS pushed
The other kind of switches
If the switches are in sealed cans or enclosures, but there are "gaps" in the case of the button *sometimes* you can spray an electronic "contact cleaner" like they used to use on old mechanical TV tuners and then work the buttons till the cleaner has evaporated -- it does NOT take a lot, it just has to get inside the switch. if it is this type switch then you could also have a cold solder joint. If you don't feel comfortable doing this stuff, then PLEASE get some one that is competent because this is delicate work. If you disturb the IR laser carriage, or the optics for it, in any way your unit will be tits up. -- I'd hate to see you ruin a classic.
Also use caution if you use the spray cleaner as it is usually "Triclormethane based" and will probably melt the plastic case of the unit -- if you do get an on the case DO NOT touch it blow on it and try to get it to evaporate as fast as possible this stuff WILL make the plastic soft so let it be the more you touch it the worse it will look
