Film News: Arrested Development Movie Update
Want to know the latest news about the Sudden Valley housing development? Ever wondered what to do when someone hops onto the stair-car? Worried your shares in the Bluth Company are turning into a risky investment? If you instantly recognise all three of these things, it's probably safe to say that you have a worrying case of Arrested Development withdrawal syndrome.
Ever since the show was unceremoniously cancelled by the American broadcaster Fox in 2006, fans and film news sources have been waiting with bated breath to hear whether there will finally be a cinematic adaptation of the brilliant but cancelled television show.
Created by Mitch Hurwitz, the show brought a new style of comedy to American TV screens by filming in a faux documentary format. The show also employed the unique device of a narrator (voiced by Ron Howard) to join together what was going on in each episode. It also provided a subtle satire of a number of topical subjects at the time, with some of its major plot lines poking fun at the War on Terror.
The show also introduced the world to the comedic stylings of Jason Bateman, Will Arnett and Michael Cera. All three of these actors would not currently be experiencing such a surge in their popularity without Arrested Development. Michael Cera has now become an "indie cinema king", cementing his status in Hollywood after appearing in last year's smash hit, Scott Pilgrim vs The World.
Despite rumours spreading like wildfire about the film adaptation, Hurwitz and fellow Arrested Development actors have been tight-lipped about what the movie's plot would contain. Hurwitz has been quoted as saying that he will now be focusing on getting the script completed after some of his television projects have failed to take off.
There also has been an uncertainty as to whether any favourite recurring characters will be returning. Liza Minnelli, known for playing Lucille Bluth's arch "frienemy" Lucille Two, has already mentioned that she'd love to be offered a chance of reprising the character on the silver screen. Jason Bateman has mentioned he'd love it if Jennifer Anniston could have a part in the movie.
With Mitch Hurwitz at the helm, we can be certain that there won't be any drop in the movie's quality from the television series, something that film reviewers were vocal about when Sex and the City was reincarnated for the big screen. Meanwhile, keep that Cornballer safe and make sure that you keep an eye on the Banana Stand, as the Bluths will inevitably be returning soon.
