1000Base-T SFP Copper Transceiver

Toronto, Canada – GAO Tek Inc. (www.GAOTek.com) recommends this hot-pluggable 1000Base-T SFP copper transceiver which is compliant with SFP MSA, IEEE Std 802.3TM-2002 and FCC 47 SFR Part 15, Class B. It is available for RoHS compliant products and is completely compliant with SONET/SDH recommendations for OC-48 specifications. The small form pluggable (SFP) transceiver operates at the wavelength of 1310nm and is designed for use in serial telecom and data applications such as 1.25Gigabit Ethernet over Cat 5 cable, switch/router to switch/router links and high speed I/O for file servers. It is especially useful for single mode (SM) fibers.
The 1000Base-T SFP copper transceiver, model HTSFP-24-111X, is composed of two sections: a transmitter section and a receiver section. The transmitter section incorporates FP and a driver IC with temperature compensation and an automatic power control circuit. The receiver section incorporates an efficient InGaAs/InP PIN photodiode and trans-impedance with AGC for wide dynamic rage.
This hot pluggable transceiver has a small form factor package and includes detailed product information in its EEPROM, a compact RJ-45 connector assembly; it is able access the physical layer IC via 2-wire serial bus. This reliable transceiver consumes little power and offers excellent immunity to interference. Its LVPECL data interface simplifies interfacing to external circuitry.

Why Ethernet is very popular than SDH and SONET. What are the advantaes of ethernet over SDH and SONET?

SONET and SDH are typical transport optical circuits (WAN), designed years ago to support transport of DS3s (45 Mb/s). SONET is made up of STS's, 50 Mb/s each, mapped togteher you can get (3x) 155 Mb/s OC3 or OC3c (concatinated means a fat pipe), 12x 655 Mb/s OC12, 48x 1.244 Gb/s, 192x 10 Gb/s.
From the above data, you can see that SONET and SDH (European Standards) use a lot of overhead to make sure that there is no errors and messaging (you can even talk over the SONET overhead between nodes).
Ethernet was initially designed for desktop local area networks (LAN) and is a totally different network design. It is a best effort network, not a dedicated (gonna get there) network. It has it's advantages- low circuit overhead, widely deployed and desired.
CCIE will state that a T1 is a WAN interface, that is because it is a traditional telecommunications circuit. We will use the senario of a T1 WAN card on a business router...The T1 leaves a building, goes through repeaters, get to the Central Office/Mux point. It is multiplexed onto a STS or DS3 which can hold 28 of them. The DS3s are multiplexed onto a SONET optical circuit for transport (usually around a ring, but not required) to the other side, say city. Then , depending on the application, gets handed to other optical multiplexers until it reaches it's destination. Our T1 of internet will be handed off to a router that has a connection to a core router that has a connection to the internet.....too long winded and sorry for any spelling mistakes, typing fast...
