How to Maintain a Ductless Air Conditioner

Remove Debris

I also suggest removing trees, bushes, and all types of debris from the outside unit to maintain a ductless AC. That way, the unit can get air through the coils, and it can work properly. If an outdoor air conditioning unit gets too much of a buildup of natural plant life around it, it can become difficult for the unit to run at its most efficient level. This can cause unnecessary problems that will often result in costly repairs.

 

Call in Professionals

Aside from regularly cleaning air filters and keeping any outdoor units free of debris, I tend to recommend that clients watch out for certain signs and call in professionals in if they notice problems, rather than trying to repair or maintain a ductless system on their own. With ductless air conditioners in particular, homeowners should stay on the lookout for any plugged up drains that could be damaging or inhibiting their systems.

 

In Champaign, much of the AC repair work that needs to be done on ductless systems is caused by plugged up drains. While issues such as having water running down an outside wall are usually small enough that homeowners can clean up the dripping water on their own, I recommend that anyone who notices a signal like this call an HVAC repair company to come out and have a look at the drains as quickly as possible. Usually, dripping water is a signal that the drain itself has gotten clogged.
