Receptacle Adapter
No wall socket in the cabin so how may I go about acquiring electricity?
i will be occupying a remote, secluded cabin in the backcountry for a little while, and it doesn't accomodate any electrical receptacles or wall sockets, so therefore no electricity. Is there a feasible way I can have one installed in the cabin despite the fact there are no transmission lines in the vicinity (but there is a stream nearby that could be nontheless, beneficial for the purpose of developing micro hydro energy) and not a fairly accessible location? Is there a specialized type of electric adapter that could be useful?
Where is the nearest house with power? That will give you an idea how far the power company will have to run the wires. (They are not run from transmission lines).
More than a hundred feet and it will cost you a fortune, but give them a call to get a quote.
If you want to put a waterwheel in the stream, that is possible, but you must own the land, and get permission of anyone downstream, plus permission of the local zoning board, and possibly an environmental impact statement. The capitol cost could be high, in the tens of thousands of dollars, or higher.
Solar and wind power are also very expensive.
Consider a gasoline operated generator, they are quite cheap.
