Digital camera settings NOT mentioned in insturction book: Sony S500?
Since the folks at customer support don't listen, figured I'd try this again. I want to take action shots (like a baskeball game) that don't come out blurry. The manual that comes with the product DOES NOT explain the following functions I found: EV, ISO, Saturation,metering, digital zoom (smart/precision), and others. I did hear that increasing image size and ISO can improve the action shots? I know about shutter speed but can I adjust it on this camera? Again, please don't just say 'increase shutter speed' (or like SONY says, keep your arms at your side). WHAT do these features mean and what does increasing%2
Since shooting sports really requires a DSLR with fast lens, I am not surprised you did not find any specific instruction on how to shoot sports indoors.
Here are the settings on my camera inside a sports arena.
70-200 mm f/2.8 lens at 1/500th @ f/2.8 with the white balance set at 3130 K
As you will see, there are no options on your camera to do that.
The only thing you can try is to set the ISO of your camera as high as it will go and deal with the image noise later with a program like Noise Ninja and use a "sports" mode if your camera has one. Oh and don't forget to adjust your white balance for the lighting in the stadium
NOTE: After reading your user manual, I see that your camera is a very basic P&S camera with very few modes to choose from. And what ISO and white balance there may be on your camera, it is in an auto mode and cannot be adjusted.
Try the twilight portrait mode and see if you can reduce the blur caused by either camera or subject movement
