The Right Way to Clicker Training a Puppy
Getting a new puppy brings joy to a number of people. However, it is important to remember that there are lots of responsibilities that come with the new member of the family. This device comes in a plastic box and a metal button which produces a clicking noise once the button is being pressed. Unlike the other tools for training a puppy, this one is positive and very easy to do.
Clicker training a puppy is a good idea because the training enforces a positive experience for the pet. Each time that the puppy exhibits a good behavior, the button of the clicker is pressed and followed by a treat or praise. This lets the puppy know that the action he did is favorable. By doing so, he will associate that a click means receiving more treats.
One important thing to remember about this training method is that each puppy is different. While there are some that easily grasp the behavior being taught to him, there are others that will take a while to understand what is right from wrong. With the help of the clicker, the pet will easily establish a good behavior from a bad one. However, it is important to keep continuing the training on a daily basis.
The best time to start training a dog is when he is still a puppy. Think of him as a little boy about to attend school. Since his brain is basically still a sponge, you can start clicker training a puppy because he will easily absorb the behavior you have enforced with him. When he grows up, he will bring the training with him. Just like the quote "You can't teach old dogs new tricks." Training a dog is best when he is still a puppy.
