How do you test a 4 pin molex with a multimeter?
I put the red probe of the multimeter into the red socket of a spare molex and the black probe into a black socket while the pc was on and running and the pc cut of, must have shorted out, i thought you could do this?
Switching power supplies need to be "loaded" before they deliver current. Without a load, the current is 0, and thus, no voltage.
Put about a 10k resister across the points you want to measure, and then measure it.
Damn! Never mind...you just said that the computer was on. Sorry.
Anyway, after rereading it, if you shorted the leads together while testing, the current then rises dramatically and the PS shuts down. Taking your computer with it, of course. Just wait a few seconds or a minute for your PS to reset itself, and turn your system back on.
