How do I use a multimeter to test an outlet for current?
Want to know if my 220 volt dryer outlet is getting the entire current
Use your multi meter to measure the voltage while the hair dryer is running. (Open the dryer cover and put the meter on the lines coming into the dryer). But for crying out loud, BE CAREFUL!
If you measure the proper voltage under load, then the dryer is getting enough current. If the voltage drops, then your dryer is taking too much current and may need repair.
