Wireless modules in mobile phones
Integrating many electronics components into small packages is becoming more and more necessary. The System-in-Package approach used by forward thinking companies is helping to lower costs, create small packaging, and produce all-around more efficient production. This goes hand-in-hand with the advances in technology regarding wireless modules. These modules are becoming necessary in a wide variety of products.
The most obvious place to use a wireless module is in a computer or a mobile phone. They allow devices to communicat with other devices without the need for any wires. The latest advances in wireless modules are seeing home entertainment say goodbye to wires and cables. The latest devices all support this technology and this means that there is no longer need to buy tables such as HDMI to DVI cables.
Now it is possible to connect a laptop and a HD wide screen television without the need for a wire. Of course we've always used remote-controlled wirelessly, at least since the early 80s. However the signals transmitted to control a television are very basic. To transfer high quality, large files such as HD movies from a laptop to a widescreen television is a far greater challenge. The traditional thin wires have been replaced by high-quality VGA to HDMI cables.
However just as these cables were taking off, it seems that they will be replaced. Wireless modules are at the forefront of miniaturization and wireless technology. They will be able to do away with all wires from now on. This includes connecting up speakers, which is especially important for people with surround sound systems, who want to place speakers all around the living room. High quality wireless modules mean that there is no loss in sound quality or video quality when transferring data to a TV.
In the future even more items will feature wireless modules to make our lives easier. This will include electrical appliances which will then be able to connect with the manufacturers to diagnose malfunctions and carry out servicing.

Does The Length Of Wire To the Antenna Affect The Signal?
I have a module that connects to a 433 MHz antenna. The way the module connects to the antenna is via a regular insulated copper wire (From a cat-5 cable). The antenna is designed for 433 Mhz. Does the length of the wire from the module to the antenna affect the range/signal? Is there an simple explanation for this?
These days, most amplifiers are designed on the basis it will use a 50 Ohm load. That means that you would usually connect the output through 50 Ohm cable (co-axial). It might be necessary to convert this impedance at some stage before the antenna but that is where you would start (if you have access to the makers data then check).
Coaxial cable consists of characteristic parasitic components such as series inductance and parallel capacitors and resistance. The whole contributes to losses in the cable which the maker will specify. For instance:
RG-174/U 19 dB per 100 ft at 400 MHz
RG-58/U 10 dB per 100 ft at at 400 MHz
RG-213/U 4.1 dB per 100 ft at at 400 MHz
From this you can infer that indeed, the length does matter, the longer the cable the greater the losses. Antennas work the same as either transmitting or receiving.
Losses are reduced if everything matches along the transmission line. That doesn't mean that you can not change feed impedance's but that matching systems would be needed if you do.
There are no simple explanations with transmission line theory.
