Amazing Headunits

Old receivers have always been something that has accompanied us inside our cars. They have been a source of comfort during lonely drives and road trips, they have also been giving us company each and every day we drive to work or go home late at night. Old receivers have long been outdated and most are even no longer in production, however, because of the dawn of new technology, there are currently a wide range of products that are available that function more than what head units could ever dream of.

Head units are basically the centerpiece of every car audio system that is installed in every car unit. Although there are virtually a lot of components that come into each and every audio system such as the sub woofers, the speakers, the tweeters, the amplifiers, the capacitors and even all the media players and LCD monitors installed, all of these components will need to be connected to a singular head piece or control center.

These units are well developed nowadays and in fact a lot of technology, man power, effort and scientific study have been poured in to each and every one of them. Though these electronic devices are typically very common nowadays, keep in mind that they are built to be as simple and as user friendly as possible. Most of the time, it means that they are very complicated and they have a very intricate wiring system installed in order to provide the most accessibility and function to their users.

Routine use units or models typically have great function and versatility. It is common to see models that are for routine use, but is already built to adapt bigger systems and components just in case you want to upgrade your car audio. Remote controls are commonly part of the package and seeing models that are capable of receiving wireless signals and can be used as a medium for mobile phones and iPods.

New Head unit models are very common and they can definitely draw the line when it comes to routine models and high end systems.  These systems are usually built for comfort, for giving clients the absolute cutting edge technology inside their cars. Their head units have morphed into touch screen systems with wide screen monitors. Having a built in voice capable computer is never a new thing as it also provides a global positioning system based navigation capability.

A headunit has developed and evolved beyond our wildest dreams and manufacturers of these devices have continued to amaze us with all their new inventions. JVC in car systems have provided new updates on their latest projects that feature their latest technology and personally, I would not be surprised to see the other manufacturers follow in their footsteps and also introduce their featured products to the market.

How much energy would be stored in the capacitor if a mica dielectric is placed between the parallel plates?

How much energy would be stored in the capacitor if a mica dielectric is placed between the parallel plates? Assume the mica is 1.3mm thick and therefore it fills the space between the plates.

The capacitor is two square plates 8.0cm on a side, seperated by 1.3mm. Charges on the plates are equal and opposite with magnitude of 420 microC. The capacitance if the gap is filled with air is 43.6pF and the amount of energy it can hold is 2.0x10^3 J.

W(stored) = ½Q²/C

C = εᵣεₒ(A/d)

W = ½Q²d/εᵣεₒA

= (0.5)(4.2x10^-4)²(1.3x10^-3) / (8.854x10^-12)(7)(0.08)²

= 289.06 joules
