Parking Lot Maintenance Basics

Most facility owners do not pay a lot of attention to parking lot maintenance in spite of the fact that it is the first impression that any potential customer or client will have of your business. A dirty, broken down, pot holed parking lot reeks of unprofessionalism; a fact that many business and store owners choose to ignore. Regular parking lot painting, striping and maintenance does not cost a lot, and you can easily ensure that your customers get a good impression of your business right from the word go by following the basic steps of parking lot maintenance.

• Keep It Clean: When a customer enters your parking lot, then the first thing he will notice is not how well painted it is but rather how dirty it is. Regular sweeping of the whole parking lot should not be a one off, but a routine activity. Special care should be taken during autumn for the removal of dry leaves, in summer for clearing up after dust storms and in the spring for cleaning up salt and debris residue left during the snow season wherever applicable.

• Keep Stitching In Time: Parking lot repair is not a cheap job, which is one reason why you should never let your parking lot deteriorate badly. While rebuilding a parking lot may cost you upwards of $50 or whereabouts per square yard, getting your cracks sealed the moment they appear will cost you as little as 25 cents per square yard. Make it a regular habit to walk your parking lot every week or fortnight to check for cracks or holes. Hire a professional parking lot maintenance company for crack sealing and you can ensure that your parking lot stays as good as new for at least the next five to seven years.

• Don’t Let It Turn Into A Garden: If you live in a rain prone area, then you might have witnessed roads getting potholed every few months or so. Water is the biggest enemy of asphalt, and if there is any of it standing in your parking lot, or of it keeps raining every other day, then you might very soon start witnessing plants and weeds taking root in your parking lot. Parking lot maintenance experts advise that you get your lot sealed against water seepage on a regular basis to prevent water from corroding away the foundation of your parking lot. Contact a local parking lot maintenance company or expert to know how often you may require sealing in your area.

• Keep The Makeup Intact: Parking lot painting and parking lot striping are not there only for cosmetic purposes. Yes, they do make your lot look good, but parking lot striping also serves the more important purpose of keeping your parking lot accident and collision free while making for optimum utilization of space. Similarly, parking lot painting, especially sign painting can keep your lot safe by informing visitors about speed limits and demarcating areas for employees, customers, small and large vehicles etc.

Is it possible to enroll at two public high schools at once? I plan on taking a lot of AP classes?

I plan on taking a lot of AP classes however my current school only offers two classes taught by a teacher. I don't want to be on a computer all day so I was wondering if I could go to another local high school that was named one of Americas Best High Schools and take the AP classes there? Is this possible? Thanks!

Is the school in the same district? You will need to talk to the college counselor or principal and possibly the school district. If it's out of district, that will likely be more difficult. Start with your college counselor or principal. Typically in my area, the kids take extra AP classes over the summer, sometimes 8, going to several different schools and districts. (Yep, we have crazy kids around here.) It's easier during the summer because they allow students to go out of their school or district easily.

Also, if you are more looking for the AP tests for college credit, rather than trying to boost your gpa, check on the curriculum of regular classes to see if it will cover enough for AP tests. At my son's private school, they choose not to follow the AP curriculum, but the students are well prepared, and pass, the AP tests. (You're allowed to test without taking an official AP class.) The colleges are well aware of school's curriculum and internally weigh accordingly.

Remember that high school is supposed to be fun, don't wear yourself down taking too many AP classes. Top colleges look at more than grades (everyone has straight As pretty much), be sure to use your passion as an extracurricular and community service opportunity. Brand yourself. (My dh does admissions interviews for local applicants to his Ivy alma mater.)
