Easy Steps To Install Roadside Locking Mailboxes

Many people don't think about it, but there are federal regulations that govern how a locking roadside mailbox has to be displayed in your yard. The guidelines are not intricate and are designed with the sole purpose of making it easier and more efficient for mail carriers to deliver the mail to your residence or office.

If you do choose a custom-built mailbox, it's critical you be sure it's approved by the local postmaster. It's not possible to just create a mailbox of any shape or size and expect to keep getting your mail.

Any mailbox with a lock needs to have the approval of the Postmaster General and should include a slot big enough to handle the volume of mail you ordinarily receive. It is against USPS regulation to display any kind of advertising on either the mailbox and the mailbox post.

The following are required for mailboxes with attached newspaper receptacle.

* The receptacle does not need to touch the mailbox for support
* It can't interfere with the regular technique of mail delivery
* It can't prevent the flag on the mailbox from the view of the mail carrier
* Does not reach beyond the front of the mailbox when the door of the mailbox is closed
* The receptacle can't create a safety hazard to either the mail carrier or his or her vehicle

Furthermore, the name or address on your mailbox should be at least one inch high. This is to help the mail delivery person be able to simply identify your residence.

The mailbox will have to stand between 41 and 45 inches above the road's surface except in cases when the road or curb does not allow this distance. Though it may seem like common knowledge, you must put your roadside mailbox on the right side of the street so the carrier's traveling route won't be altered.

Your mailbox must be positioned between 6 and 8 inches from the curb. In order to make sure you are following the most current regulations, contact your local post office before you decide to move your mailbox.

It is also essential for you to keep the locking mailbox in good condition, ensuring the post is sturdy and not cracked. There must always be a transparent pathway for mail carriers to place mail into the box or they're not going to deliver your mail. It is the duty of the owner to change any mailbox that becomes damaged.

Patio door lock won't engage. How to move it to correct position?

This aggravating thing! I am selling my house, and although this lock never worked when I bought the house, the inspector for the new buyer says it has to be fixed.

Simple right? It appears that the receiving part is too high for the lock thingy to engage. I removed the receiving end that has a rectangle opening, but how to know where exactly to mount it?

I tried a little higher, a little lower. There must be a trick. I can't see or mark exactly where to mount it, since it's hidden when the door is closed. You can't see the lock at all.

Could it be the 'hook' part itself that is not staying in the rectangle receptacle? How to know?

Any help or suggestions greatly appreciated!! Thanks.

You should be able to raise the door by adjusting the wheel at the bottom. I used to have 7 sliding doors in my old house. Also you can try loosening the locks and pushing up on the one in the door and holding it there while you retighten it, and pushing down on the one in the frame and holding it there while you retighten it. Good luck.
