Safest method of power supply for electronic repair? -UK.?
In repairing a lot of mains equipment, the supply has to be on while probes are used.
If repairing at customers premesis - what equipment is best to provide a reasonable level of safety?
Would an RCD plug on a small extrnsion be sufficient? - or do I need a more complicated isolation transformer?
Would an isolation transformer still give a shock if connected to an RCD - as there would not be an earth leak from that circuit.
Is it possible to buy a unit that covers all bases so to speak?

For Class 11 equipment, a safety isolation transformer will provide some protection as there is no path to earth on the secondary winding.
Please note that there is no protection between the secondary Live and Neutral, ie you will still get a shock if you touch both.
The idea is that there is no return path to earth, so if you touch the output live and earth there is no path for the current.
A RCD looks for an imbalance between Live and Neutral currents, so a live to earth path might trigger it, but a live to neutral may not.
There is no point using both devices together as one will cancel out the protection of the other.
