UHF Humidity-Temperature RFID Tag

Toronto, Canada - GAO RFID Inc. (www.GAORFID.com) has released a new product called UHF humidity-temperature RFID tag which is designed for use in environmentally sensitive areas such as IT data centers. The tag can monitor the ambient temperature and relative humidity inside of data center racks to enable easy mapping of data center temperature profiles and air flow optimization. Meanwhile, it also can report real-time environmental conditions periodically. The compact RFID tag is an ideal tool for monitoring rack installed assets and sensitive equipment in high-density environments.

The single use humidity-temperature RFID tag, model 124055, is encased in an impact resistant polycarbonate enclosure with a strong adhesive on the back of the case. It offers a temperature sensor accuracy of ±1.2°C and a humidity sensor accuracy of ±5% RH. It features a low-battery alert function and operates with a very low duty cycle and a 10s beacon rate. The small form factor ensures clear signal transmission in high-density deployments. The tag has the characteristics of tough, impact resistant and temperature stable, enhances customers' existing active RFID infrastructure as well as industrial-strength adhesive mounting and flexible mounting options.

What are the effects of humidity and temperature on a human?

I watched a documentary on the giant crystal caves in mexico, and it said that in these caves the temperature was around 50 degrees celsius and humidity was at 100 percent which would kill a person within half an hour, how does this work?

The human body needs to reject heat in order to operate. 100 Watts of heat power to be specific, and that is at relaxed activity levels. The human body in healthy conditions will maintain an internal temperature of 37 Celsius.

In order for any heat to transfer, a temperature difference drives heat to flow from hot to cold. It NEVER happens the other way around by direct means. To make heat flow the other direction, we need to use a refrigeration method of some sort, which requires work input and rejects more heat than it removes from the space of cooling.

The human body has a bit of a trick up its sleeve, whereby it can instead saturate the air that surrounds it with water. The surrounding air provides the heat to evaporate the water, and the water then mixes with the air, and ultimately produces a lower temperature, but higher humidity region of air. This is kosher with the second law of thermodynamics, because a mixing of gasses is less ordered than pure gasses...so there is still entropy generation, despite the fact that it makes cold temperature out of hot temperature.

The limit to how much watering air can cool it off is called the adiabatic saturation temperature. Only if the adiabatic saturation temperature is human body temperature or lower can we actually use sweatting to cool ourselves. If air is fully humid, then the adiabatic saturation temperature = the actual dry bulb temperature of the air...and attempting to sweat is useless. In such a situation, we simply will suffer heat stroke.
