Already gave a shower gift, do I need to give a gift at the reception?

I am going to a wedding and it is turning out somewhat expensive. It is being held out of town so I will be incurring transportation charges (gas, tolls) as well as hotel charges (around $230), AND have spent money on both a 'day' dress and an 'evening' dress+shoes (around $100) since the ceremony and reception are being held at two completely different times of day. I attended the bride's shower and purchased a $100 item (her registry was on the expensive side). So now that the tally is up to almost $500, I'm wondering.... am I still obligated to give a monetary gift at the reception? The bride is the cousin of my long term boyfriend, and even he isn't all that 'close' with her.
Aspasia, if you read my question you would know that I am talking about a MONETARY gift, aka, money in a card.

A separate gift is given for the bridal shower and the wedding.
The shower gift is usually less expensive.
I understand how you feel about all the expense. Guests should only give what they are able to do.
