The best option for the budget minded would be the Zoom H4 handheld which can be bought at Sweetwater.com. They will probably sound ok but definately not the best. They cost around 300 dollars american if you call Sweetwater they might give you a discount for high quantities. Of course there are more expensive options the Sony PCM-D1 which will definately sound better but they cost about 1800 dollars a piece. They are both stereo with built in microphones, and they both have USB for easy transfer into a computer. Now the big difference between the two is recording time the Zoom only holds 128 MB of audio which would equal about 25 minutes of recording. however it is expandable to 2 GB which is about 380 minutes of recording using a flash memory card for about an extra 100 bucks. The Sony has 4 GB of flash memory built in for nearly endless recording time.
