Small, Simple, and Reliable: The Rigol DSA1020

Spectrum analyzers are devices used to examine the spectral composition of electrical, optical, and acoustic waveforms. Applications for this research include, but are not limited to, measuring the frequency, response, noise, and distortion characteristics of RF circuitry; determining occupied bandwidth and track interference sources in telecommunications; and characterizing test signals in electromagnetic testing, and measuring the response of the equipment under test.

The Rigol DSA1020 is a spectrum analyzer using a 9 kHz to 2 GHz frequency range. It features an overall amplitude accuracy of less than 0.1 dB. In addition to its standard 10 Mz minimum resolution bandwidth, this device offers accurate and reliable measurement of smaller signals. It is an excellent device for determining subtle differences between small signals by distinguishing their different frequencies. This spectrum analyzer offers high precision amplitude readings quickly. Its bandwidth allows for swift and accurate readings.

Your findings will not only be accurate; they will also be easy to read and interpret when they are displayed on the widescreen 8.5" TFT LCD display, featuring 800 x 480 high resolution. The finely detail spectral lines in the display allow large data sets to be displayed with distinct, easy to read features. All of this fits into a small, compact design, weighing only 6.2 kilograms; it operates on a Lithium Battery, making this device fully portable convenient to use in almost any setting. The battery has a three-hour life between charges, and the Rigol DSA1020 has a high capacity of digital storage space to save your results until you are able to download them, if you choose to do so. It is compatible with a number of graphic interface options, including LAN/USB host, USB device, VGA, or GPIB, giving you multiple options for viewing, manipulating, interpreting, and sharing your results.

Measurement Functions

The Rigol DSA1020 features a time domain power, which is the ability to analyze how a signal changes over time., and adjacent channel power, which measures the the total power of the intermodulation signal and measures the ratio of that value to that of the useful signal.

It features occupied bandwidth; this is the frequency bandwidth that, beyond its upper and lower frequency limits, the mean powers radiated equal 0.5% of the total power radiated by the emission.

This device measures hamonic distortion and carrier to noise ratios, both necessary in communications and telecommunications fields. The carrier to noise ratio measures received carrier strength, compared to the strength of the received noise.

Overall, the Rigol DSA 1020 is a spectrum analyzer that is capable of highly detailed, highly reliable readings of smaller signals, their strength, and their frequency. The automatic settings and functions decrease the occurrence of human error and improve your overall results and interpretations. The digital IF design is one that reduces the complexity of the machinery, reducing overall problems with aging parts, faulty hardware, and system instability, giving you a longer lasting, more reliable device. The rugged structure of this spectrum analyzer allows it to be useful in a number of settings, regardless of temperature and environmental hazards.
