How to Fix a Video Driver Error without Buying a New Video Card
Microsoft Windows has been doing quite a bit of updating lately mainly because of the recent release of Windows 7. With a new release comes the inevitable bugs, which always need fixing. In turn, we have been inundated with video driver error messages. It seems something Microsoft did messed up lots of people's video. Here is what you do to fix it.
Read the Error Message First
Sometimes the error message is blatant and will say, "NVidia error, install new NVidia drivers." Others are a little more vague saying something like, "Error drivers not installed." Still others will tell you nothing about what is wrong by saying, "Video not found."
Still, you need to attempt to force the error message. If it does tell you what driver needs to be updated, then that will make your life a lot easier. If this is the case, skip down to updating the drivers.
Deleting and Reinstalling Video Drivers
If you have recently installed Windows 7, used an Anytime Upgrade, or downloaded a Windows update, it is possible the video driver was corrupted in the process. It is easy to fix and it won't take you very long.
You will need:
- Driver Recovery disk (comes with the computer or video card)
- Approximately 10 minutes
Uninstalling the Video Driver:
- Open Device Manager
- Windows XP
o Start
o Control Panel
o Add Remove Program
o Select Install/Uninstall tab- Windows Vista or Windows 7
o Start
o Type "Remove Programs" into the box
o Press enter -
Uninstall the Drivers- Click the Video Drivers
- Select Uninstall
- Follow onscreen instructions
Installing the Video Drivers
- Insert the recover driver CD into the computer
- If the CD does not automatically run
- Click Start
- Double My Computer or Computer
- Double Click the CD drive
- Double click the "exe" file
- Follow the onscreen instructions to complete installation
Updating the Video Drivers
If you are still having problems, then you may need to update the video drivers.
If you know the name of the video card (NVidia, ATI, etc), then you can go to the manufacturer's website and download the latest drivers. Once you have done this, you will need to install the updated drivers.
Install Updated Drivers:
- Open Device Manager (See Uninstalling the Video Driver)
- Click the (+) next to Display Adapters and Monitors - this will further open the section
- Right click on each driver
- Select Update Driver
- Follow the onscreen instructions
If you do not know the name of the video card, then you will need driver update software. Run this software to identify, locate, download, and install the latest version of all the drivers on your computer. It will scan and find the latest drivers in less than two minutes.
A video driver may be frustrating, but it is easy to fix. It shouldn't take you very long and it is much cheaper than buying a new video card or monitor.

Is it normal to take a month before first driver' training?
I called last week for my son's behind the wheel training and they told the first available date was early March. I called another place and they told me they weren't sure and that it would probably be longer. Is this normal? Has anyone had an experience with something like this? Any input would be nice. Thanks.
I got my permit in November and still haven't started drivers' ed. (because of my schedule and then midterms came up) Some drivers' ed places are really small and only have one instructor. If that is the case they have to finish one group of classes, this includes road lessons, before they can start another.Seeing how the road lessons have to be made from appointment to appointment, it is understandable that they are not exactly sure when the next classes start. You might want to sign him up for one with a permanent schedual because usually, that indicates organization and success.
