whats up with the disk drive?

I got an hp as a replacement for a stolen laptop. it was NIB when i got it, and has never played movies. now i am trying to install norton and it read the disk to begin with then after i entered the product key a window popped up and said i had removed the disk, i checked my computer, and it was no longer reading the disk. And it was still in the dvd drive. I took it out and put it back in, and it still will not read the disk. What do i do?
it is windows vista, and ill have a small problem downloading anything as i am in iraq, and it is hard to do much here

The most common cause of this problem is simply trying to use the drive with no disk in it. It can also be caused by a problem with the drive itself or a bad disk. In rare cases there may be another more esoteric reason for seeing this type of error# Make sure that there is in fact a CD in the drive and that the tray is closed.
Try ejecting the CD and then reloading it. Sometimes this will fix the problem because the drive for some reason didn't register it correctly the first time.
