Lawn Irrigation Hunter's PGP
The development of the Hunter Series of irrigation parts is an interesting story. Forcibly retired owing to his age, Mr. Hunter decided to say "What the heck, I'll start my own business!" and did he ever. A researcher, tester and otherwise amazing dude with some science and incredible reams of Irrigation knowledge behind him, he developed his own series of lawn and garden pop-up spray heads - rotors - the now-famous PGP - which landed with a resounding echo and have proven to be the irrigation industry's flagship sprinkler head. To call the "PGP successful is an understatement.
A rotary spray head differs from the simpler pop-up "static" sprayers in that the stream is concentrated and regulated out of the nozzle in a head that rotates in a desired arc. It allows for a dedicated space being watered at far lengthier arcs, often times using the same or even less water. Generally used for larger lawns and garden areas, these rotary sprayers can reach to nearly 100' in their larger, more commercial applications. The PGP itself, was designed to spray around 30 feet, generally, covering that area in a complete and well-watered fashion.
Different Nozzles Mean Adapting to the Environment
The range of nozzle sizes and capacities allows the Hunter PGP to deal with wind, water shortages and regulations of all types. Low angle nozzles can avoid the wasting ravages of wind and evaporation by spraying at an arc which can be nearly parallel with the ground. They can also loop very high, to avoid larger shrubs and trees, providing a gentle rainfall in a precipitous arc. The adaptations of this once-unique technology has provided the industry with many imitators, yet so few have even approached the versatility, the simplicity or the durability of this amazing advance in irrigating.
Durability
The simple gear-drive technology on the inside provides grease-free and rust-proof plastic gears which are so evenly-matched, the needs to repair or address the "guts" of a PGP are nearly nil. Simple in design and stunningly efficient in practice, the even application of water - our most precious technology - is guaranteed in the easiest designs imaginable. The plastic casing is as hard as it can be and more than able to withstand the tires, weed eaters and edging machines of maintenance persons and provides the longest-lasting maintenance-free option of any rotary head on the market.
Garden's sprinkler
The PGP can also come in heads which are up to 24" in length. This allows this hard-working head to stick up above the pants and grasses it is intended to spray and to avail itself of those nozzle possibilities which were detailed above, avoiding things like wind problems, evaporation from "atomizing" and physical impediments. They can also just simply sit on the end of a big pipe, right smack in the middle of a garden and rotate 360 degrees, for those who want a larger area sprayed efficiently and on a clock/timer. Versatile and ready to operate immediately, there is a small learning curve in adjustments and settings which takes minutes, after which one can enjoy the literal state of the art in irrigation technology.
