Tips on creating the best Digital signage content

 

It is a creative and fun process creating media for digital signage content. You can experiment with different elements of design including text, video, animation, sound, images, transitions and virtually any element that goes into the content. The aim of any digital signage is to provide information and messages to viewers in the most effective manner. It is therefore necessary to first understand basic rules of design to ensure that the content is powerful, compelling and readable.

 

• Design elements must be easily separable by the reader as otherwise; there are chances of your message getting lost. For enhanced legibility, it is necessary to ensure contrast. Good contrast ensures good legibility and legibility is reduced with poor contrast. So, it is necessary to ensure plenty of contrast between the foreground colors and the background, especially in areas that contain the text.

 

• Concise and clear message must be conveyed by the words on the screen. Design in the digital signage content must not be cluttered with a lot of text and ensure that the font size is large enough. Ideally, the text should not contain more than three lines with not more than five words in each line.

 

• Font should be legible and clear and it is recommended to use italics sparingly. Enhance readability with bold lettering and large text. For short messages it is a good idea using fonts that do not have serifs which is nothing but a typeface with every character containing small strokes.

 

• Good contrast can be created with the right colors. By choosing the right foreground and background colors it is possible to make your content attractive and eye catching. There are three basic digital colors that are used for mixing namely blue, green and red. All other colors are byproducts of these three main colors.

 

• In order to create improved digital signage content designs, it is necessary to use dark on light and light on dark contrasting colors. Study, analyze and understand in depth what the viewers are interested in. This is the most effective way of controlling the information impact. 

 

• You can guide the attention of viewers to critical information using focus techniques. After you have successfully captured their attention, you can incorporate in your designs an effective visual hierarchy. Priority of elements of design is also conveyed to the audience through other factors such as size, angles, arrangement and open space. Use a lot of attractive high contrast items, bright colors, attractive graphics and eye catching headlines.

 

• Before you display your digital signage content, it is essential to preview the designs. Adjust your eyes and view the screen from every angle possible to ensure which aspects must be taken as priority. Take time to test the visibility and readability before you publish the digital signs. Stand at least five feet away from the monitor as most of your audience will be viewing from a distance.  

 

Before finalizing the design keep in mind the following:

• The message you want to convey to the viewer based on the product or service you are selling;
• What the viewer preferences are likely to be;
• Is the content such that it can be watched over and over again without being bored?

• Where the message will be displayed—to a static audience or a moving audience who will simply glance at it in passing and if so the duration for which they will notice the message?

 

Digital signage is perhaps one of the best ways to convey the fact that a short picture conveys what a thousand words cannot.
