The Use and the Application of Inductor

By the word reactors, we mean the electrical components; these have the capability to store the energy. It has been created by passing the current through it. By the word inductance we mean the capability of the reactors in storing the energy.

If you want to check the components like – FET, SCR you are going to waste your time, in this phase the testing coil become very important. You can easily test with the help of the analog. You can either use the analog meter or the board to check for the testing purpose. Place your meter to X1 ohm. The next step is the proper placement of the robes; this must go across the coil. If you get to see the readings, then you can get assured that the coiling is fine. Sometime, the small coils get spoilt up because of less number of the windings in compare to the big coils.

You need to have the inductance meter if you think of testing the bigger coil (as in the computer monitor – B+ coils). This is measured in terms of Henry (h) – unit.

I would never recommend the use of the inductance meter in order to check whether the coil is in a fine condition or not as the inductance value of these coils are good, hence can fail in showing the proper results.

You can take the example of the speakers. These are very important these days and also are getting widely used. The machine is actually very simple one. The different parts of the speakers include –

  • Dust cap
  • Flex Wire
  • Surround
  • Wire terminals
  • Voice Coil
  • Black Plate

And many more too…

Voice coil remained wrapped around voice coil former. In this case the wire remains insulated within quite a narrow layer of the plastic or the varnish. The voice call remain suspends on a steel plate (top plate).

If you want to judge on the sound quality of the speaker, the most reliable part where you need to focus is the frequency responses. Not only will that it be easy to manipulate (however it depends upon the microphone and the placement of the room), it also depend upon the scaling and the smoothening of the graph.

Under certain conditions only, the inductors and the capacitors become the good conductors. When the frequency exceeds, the crossover capacitor is going to conduct the current in a very well fashioned manner. But on the other hand if we talk about the crossover inductor, it totally works in a reverse method.

It is important to get the knowledge of the speakers because; the ultimate quality of the sound system depends upon the quality of the speaker only.

Major areas of the application of Inductors

It is mainly used in the analog circuits in case of the signal processing. You cannot avoid the use of the inductors starting from the functioning of the radio reception to the broadcasting parts.

Can you build a 3 - way audio crossover without using inductors?

ie just using capacitors?

I might be able to.

But it would have to be an active design, that is, an active filter involving opamps and working at low levels. Then you would need three separate power amplifiers to drive the 3 speakers.

Conventional designs, which I think this is about, have a passive crossover AFTER the speaker output, which means you need only one amplifier. But the design has to work with speaker level voltages and currents, and in order to do that, you need the use of inductors.

Unless this is a dirt cheap design with a really poor response.
