New research Trend of LED Lights

LED lighting, as mentioned many times before, has always been a part of our daily lives over the years, it was mainly due to the signal light electrical form or in a calculator or watch digital display. However, the recent Flexible LED strip, has become the most popular market for energy-saving products to promote not only environmental, but also organizations and our government. This undoubtedly shows that for the LED solutions, select worthwhile investment, and encourage manufacturers to put more emphasis on areas of research and effort.

When it comes to household use of LED bulbs, the main problem is clearly a cheaper and more in the form of bright white light in the traditional filament light bulb as the light of a similar size. The size of the bulb is limited, and for light intensity requirements are very high, researchers need to work together on problems in several areas. A single, white LED light intensity challenges and work every day. February, the United States to create a CREE LED can emit 208 lumens from a watt.

LED is a form of solid state lighting (SSL) and multi-photon production of casing be trapped. The way researchers try to create a more intensive one white LED in the tube by increasing the number of microscopic holes, so that photons. Some researchers in the University of Glasgow research team is looking for a cheaper production of such LED lights the way successful.
.
Another researcher at Cambridge University in England, but the increasing use of LED manufacturing GaN semiconductor materials, silicon base is also a cheaper way fixed light intensity. These lights will appear on the market by 2012.

Increase the intensity of the LED may have been available, a light bulb placed in the limited space that they are a difficulty. LEDs are very sensitive to heat, but lost its life and light intensity, as this is very easy. High-power light emitting diode to generate more heat than other technologies LED (because they emit more light too), so the bulb's heat management is a key issue. LED lighting technology is another development direction of the growing intensity of the LED lamp designed thermal management problems.

Since entering the study, so the work in the field of LED lighting, increased product quality, the major development expected. LED in the near future will replace the light bulb or even more strength and life of incandescent 100W, up to 1 million hours long.

Is this a good bright flashlight for camping?

CREE Q5 LED 260 Lumen Flashlight Lamp Torch UltraBright
Im in BSA and been in it for bout 2-3 years now. Im looking for a better flashlight. The CREE Q5 LED 260 Lumen Flashlight Lamp Torch UltraBright is made by "Surefire" (as it says). Please help!

You certainly picked a bright light. One problem with such a bright light is that it will not last long. In some of the specs I saw it would run for 4 hours on the battery. That should be enough for one night out. If you are out two nights you may run out of power.

I have not used the Surefire brand. It certainly is expensive at $ 50.

I personally prefer a headlamp. With a headlamp I can work with both hands. I will use a headlamp even when I am not camping.

I would recommend two flashlights One would be a 30 lumen or less headlamp for around camp. The second would be a 90 lumen or more light, for emergency travel at night, or just for high power.

It is good to take a medium power flashlight camping. If you need to head home in the middle of the night because of an emergency. You do not want to use a small pen light that does show things in your path, or the lack of them like a cliff. The web site below recommends 30 lumens about 1 watt, for walking on a trail. Tactical / military lights start at 90 lumens or 3 watts. Yours is very bright at 260 lumens. That explains the short battery life. You need a light that will last till you get back to the trail head, while traveling at night.

Maglight makes good LED flashlights. I have a 4 D - cell battery 3 watt Maglight. I tested it an it ran for 27 hours on alkaline batteries. They also make a 2 and a 3 D-cell flashlights with a 3 watt LED bulb. LED is the way to go, it lasts 10 times longer. The Maglight is less expensive than the CREE Q5. Maglight has good quality. Brinkman also makes good flashlights

I have had bad luck with Princeton brand and Gerber brand of flashlights.

Enjoy your camping.
