Why can't I watch TV thru my VCR with new convertor box?

I got a convertor box from my cable company, when I hook it up, the VCR will tape the shows, but I cant watch TV thru the VCR, and to watch the tape, I have to set it up the old way-without the convertor box. Thanks!

The solution is easy if your TV set has an auxiliary A-V input (yellow-red-white jacks). Connect the A-V output of your cable box to the A-V input of your TV. Select that input to watch cable channels. Change channels via the cable box remote.

Connect the auxiliary RF out jack (like the antenna jack on your TV) on the cable box to the input of your VCR. Put the VCR on channel 3 and leave it there permanently. Connect the VCR RF output jack to the antenna jack on your TV.

With this configuration you can set and and record programs on the VCR in the normal manner without disconnecting anything. Select the desired channel on the cable box before the recording starts and leave it there until it's finished. Watch the recorded program by selecting the tuner on your TV with its remote. The recording will be seen on channel 3.
