I have read the specifications on a particular infrared (non-contact) digital thermometer and noticed that the accuracy is ± 1.5% of reading. Is this highly accurate compared with any standard contact thermometers, even the digital contact ones? I read the following on the 'Thermometer' page of Wikipedia, and wondered how this particular measurement compares with this as it seems to be much higher in accuracy:
"According to a British Standard, correctly calibrated, used and maintained liquid-in-glass thermometers can achieve a measurement uncertainty of ±0.01°C in the range 0 to 100°C, and a larger uncertainty outside this range: ±0.05°C up to 200 or down to −40°C, ±0.2°C up to 450 or down to −80°C."
