Fiber Optic Connectors and Their Uses!
Fiber optic cables offer definite advantage over ordinary cable, in terms of communication speed and also cost. These cables are connected through connectors that are especially designed for them.
What are fiber optic connectors?
Connectors that are used in fiber optic cables are known as fiber optic connectors. They are placed at the end of the connector for the purpose of allowing light to enter another device from the cable. These connectors are designed in such a way that they contain light within a cable and not let the light out, as a result of which data loss would occur. Most often you can see the connectors coming with attachment to the fiber cable, during purchase. It is also possible to manually attach them to the cable when required.
The fiber optic connectors that are available in the market today come with physical contact polish, which enables a tighter contact at the connection. Only the fiber cores will touch and not the ferrules that are around the fiber. There are also connectors available with their polished fiber end face which is useful in preventing reflected light from traveling back through the fiber cable. What is to be noted with such angle-polished connectors is that they can be used only with other angle-polished connectors.
Fiber Optic Connectors and Telephony
One of the most common applications of fiber optic connectors is on telephone company offices. Here they are used in many ways. They are used for connecting splitter, Wavelength Division Multiplexers and couplers to optical fibers. You can see them being used for connecting fibers to optical network units and digital loop carrier systems. They are used in connections between equipment and telephone plant. When optical fibers have to be tested, they are used in the testing process.
Benefits of using Fiber Optic Connectors
There are several advantages in using Fiber Optic Connectors. They are durable and the quality of communication is good. The manner in which these connectors are built is such that they will not crack easily, nor will the connection become loose quickly. Fiber optic connectors that have been developed for hard core usage have qualities that make them resistant to corrosion, excessive heat, radiation, temperature and other difficult environment factors.
They offer versatile usage as they can be used underground or walls and even enclosed so that they are unaffected by water or corrosion. They offer a variety of usage such as connecting various equipments at telephone companies, joining two fiber optic cables and so on.

I am not really sure what you are asking. Look up your model router in the link that I provided. It may not be compatible in which case you will need to buy the USB connector or a new router. The USB connector would be cheaper.
It sounds like to me that your router is not compatible.
