Digital Multimeter – detecting electrical issues with accuracy
A multimeter is a device known to many, as something that is used to measure values of electricity. This device is commonly used to check if there are electrical issues with regard to electronic devices, household electrical wiring, power supplies and other devices that require electricity to function. Generally, a multimeter has two kinds; first is the analog multimeter which is the earliest kind and second is the Digital Multimeter, which is commonly used now.
A Digital Multimeter can measure electrical properties such as voltage, conductance, inductance, frequency and current, among many others. This also helps check if the circuit continuously transmits complete cycles of electrical transfers or not. Usually the Digital Multimeter will let out a fairly audible beep that will signal that there are no interference in the process.
To look for the best Digital Multimeter, there are several sites and shops that offer a variety of sizes and feature that will help a professional electrician or a simple home owner to choose the right one for the job. First is to find out if the Digital Multimeter has features and capabilities suited for the intended use of the owner. The type of Digital Multimeter should match the level of voltage that the circuit, electrical appliance or device run on to ensure the safety of the user. Otherwise, electric shocks may damage the nerves and may cause severe burns.
The person should also determine the size of the Digital Multimeter that the person needs. There are handheld units available for a more personal use. This type is best for those who intend to use them at home. Some are large enough to be mounted on benches, which are usually more accurate and a lot of technicians prefer using this gadget. Although the handheld Digital Multimeter is portable, the bench-mounted Digital Multimeter is more accurate. Additional features should also be considered, which also includes probes, leads and clamps that would help the Digital Multimeter function better.
Out of the many types of Digital Multimeter available in the market, the best thing to look for is the way it will ensure the safety of its users. Dealing with electricity is not an easy and safe task so it's best to find a Digital Multimeter that's user friendly.
The Digital Multimeter is indeed a handy tool to make use of to be able to regularly check the quality of every electrical device at home.

If I’ve got 30 meters of 75Ω coaxial cable connected to an aerial, what impedance would my meter read when?
The reason I ask this is because I couldn’t pick up all the digital channels on my freeview box, the cables between TV and freeview box were all good, as were the connections. Next step was to have a look at the aerial wall socket.
On removal of the aerial socket, I noticed that the copper core was as it should be, but the clamp securing the screen to the socket had come away. With both ends terminated correctly and my freeview box re-tuned, I found that there were only 12 channels available to me, whereas before there were at least 40.
When I measured the impedance between conductor and screen I found that I had 770Ω. I disconnected the screen from the aerial socket, re-connected my freeview box and re-tuned. The channels available went up to 70. I should be able to receive somewhere in the region of 90.
I live in a block of six flats so running in new coaxial cable is not an option…be grateful of any advice…
Ta very much
