Need to make a 4.7uH inductor - ideas?

If I need a 4.7 micro Henry inductor, what can I do?
I have access to 1mH inductors, 10mH, and 100mH
also a large assortment of resistors and capacitors, but only three types of inductors! Is there any way to have the overall effect be my desired inductance?

Or are there any brick and mortar electronics stores (i.e. I go walk in and buy what I want, I can't wait for shipping) that would have this? Radioshack has no inductors. wtf. anyways, thanks in advance for any and all advice!

(the reason why is I am setting up a boost dc-dc converter from a fuel cell, and it outputs ~1V, not enough for a motor I've got (or any motor I can find), but with this http://www.linear.com/pc/productDetail.jsp?navId=H0,C1,C1003,C1042,P37555
and some components, I'll be set. I have everything but the inductor!

That sounds like a familiar story... I was in the same boat about a year ago for a power electronics class. (although the boost was from scratch and had no specific application). Anyway my inductor was also from scratch... I just happened to have some inductor/transformer cores laying around and I went to radio shack and bought some magnetic wire (I was amazed they actually had something useful besides resistors). I was able to get enough windings in there to get me over 100uH, so 4.7uH should be cake for you. If you are hunting in brick and mortar stores, you might be able to find a core to use.... or you could experiment with some round metal object you could find at the hardware store (But you will obviously have some significant losses there).

If making your own inductor isn't an option... just put enough 1mH inductors in parallel until you get down to 5uH.... if you figure most inductors have a tolerance around 10 or 20%.... the fact you are off by 3uH is not going to be that big a deal.

Another option is to just use the 1mH inductor alone... now I dont remember absolutely everything I learned in that power electronics class, AND I didnt have the patience to go through that datasheet thoroughly... BUT, if it is the standard layout for a boost converter, having a higher inductor is not going to hurt you too much. Usually the inductor value they give you is a minimum value for operating at the maximum current. You will have a voltage spike when it turns on if you use a much larger inductor, but if your chip and output survive that, then you should be good. Hopefully if I am seriously wrong on this one someone will correct me.
