I intend to do an USB cable thicker for a printer that is 5 m away from my PC.
Usually cables sold in shops have inside wires of about 0.3 mm and have much loss.

Does it cause any problem to make a cable with thicker wires?

For a high speed device 5 meters would be the limit. Other option would be a simple usb print server that connects via ethernet. Than with cat5 you can put it 100 m away, gives you exercise too ;o)
