Honda 19" Roller driven lawnmower HR 194?
It is an old mower with a cast alloy body. The roller drive has started to stay engaged after the lever has been released. Only happens some times, the roller rotates about 20 times and then stops. I have lubricated the cable but has not cured it yet. The drive engages fine, no judder or jerking etc. Any mower mechanics know what the problem is and how to cure it?
Thanks
This is one of those pragmatic answers as I have one like this too, and it can get very expensive to fix unless you are keen to open it up yourself.
First try something. Next time you use it let go of the lever for drive and at the same time give the handle a push forward to take the pressure off the drive. I think it might just come out of drive OK. Now that is not a fix, but if you can live with it then you might decide not to go much further. I have never had any trouble with those honda cables - mine are over 20 years old and still free. The type of oil seems unlikely to be a cause. I generally use a motorbike chain lube on cables as is very thin and it runs down the cable then gets greasy. It might be a spring but again I woudl be surprised.
If the push forward trick doies not stop it you could always lift the handles so the mower has the front wheels on the ground and the roller off it till it stops.
I would not take it to bits unless something more serious happens, but remember you can get a used one on ebay for about £200 so it is not worth spending much to fix unless you have sentimental attachments to that one. You can always sell your own as a spares or repair. Ilely to be snapped up if the engine runs!
