accelerator cable too short, holding butterfly valve of throttle open when pedal off, p0171?
I have been getting a p0171 (lean, b1) for a while now. The car is awful to drive. Its nearly impossible to make it move, it misfires, and the revs wont go above 2000.
I just noticed that the accelerator cable is too tight/short and is holding the throttle open slightly even when the peddle is not pressed. Im sure that this could possibly cause a p0171 at idle (as the IACV and throttle are both letting in air), but the p0171 always occurs at heavy acceleration.
Could this open throttle really cause such terrible engine performance, or is it more likely to be a vacuum leak/fuel delivery/exhaust clogging problem?
(car is a nissan almera/sentra with a qg18de engine from year 2000)
The throttle plate is there to admit air into the engine, which is a normal situation, and metered air. If you had a vacuum leak, for example, this would be known as UNMETERED air, as the computer does not recognize the air source, and therefore cannot compensate accordingly for it.
BTW, did you check that exhaust yet? A plugged up exhaust system can, and does, happen. It's very simple, go back to basics, check all the stupid stuff first, before you get into the heavy stuff. Hope this helps.
