I am making IR night vision but what are the best IR leds?
i am an amateur electronic kid and i need to know what would be better, buying 100 5mw IR LEDs or 10 200mw LEDs, both are about $8. assembly is not an issue, i just need to know which would be brighter and go farthest. That or an even better/ brighter way to light things up. IR floodlights?
It doesn't matter much assuming the same total power- in one case, you're making .5w and in the other you're making 2w so the 10x200 mw would be better. A lot of IR night vision like the military uses doesn't use IR illumination- its uses IR radiation emitted by anything warmer than the stuff around it. This is usually around 10 um or 10000 nm. IRLED's make IR light around 900-1200 nm really not of much use.
