PS3 Problems- fix ylod and error codes
YLOD - what is it?The phenomenon has a name: YLOD stands for Yellow Light Of Death. During boot, the PS3 a hardware self-test. The yellow light indicates a malfunction. The most common reason: are thermal stress leads cracks and thus to disruption to the solder joints.
Components such as processors are mostly intact. Experts are thinking the same on the Xbox 360 counterpart, which gained under the names Red Ring Of Death (RROD shortly), ROD, or Red Lights Of Death (RLOD) celebrity. Technically, the Microsoft console also plagued the solder problems.Standard repair: processThe so-called process professionals treat the affected part with the heating method and clean the console on the occasion. The cost is about 80 to 120 Dollars.
Guarantees are rare. The risk that the solder joints yield on heating of the processor operating in the game again, remains. If the defect within a certain period of time to report (about one to four weeks) again, some companies have the money or perform a free repair.PS3: YLOD - if the console gives up the ghost, the so called ball grid array.Ball Grid Array, BGA shortly. The solder balls are directed to the grid ( circuit board ) from the contact points of the processor.Complicated is the so-called BGA balling. Clean the components and solder balls of solder to were the wear has occurred. The problem mainly affects the YLOD-first generations of the Playstation, 60, 40 and 80 gigabyte hard drives. The Slim-variant fights occasionally broken with the power supply. Broken solder joints are no problem. The devices are also, however, not so long in service as the existing target models. PS3 YLOD cause and fix?
My daughter asked me to fix her PS3 YLOD issue thinking I work in electronics manufacturing filed many years and can give some help. She even showed me some links regarding the cause and fix of YLOD. After I did some research, here are my questions and see if any body can shed some lights on them.
1. It is hard to believe that overheating of the CPU/GPU will cause "crack" in the solder joint of BGA. Only mechanical shock/vibration will cause "crack". Overheating will only melt(hard to believe to me but if it is really hot) the solder. The melt solder will not flow all over the place, right? Not body mentioned that.
2. Now here is the contradicting part. People use heat gun to fix the "crack". It is possible to use heat to melt the solder to fill the crack. But what is the difference between this heat generated by the heat gun and the heat generated by the CPU?
yea its from the solder getting soft and the chips moving
this is how u fix it not sure if there is a better way this is the only 1 Ive seen
