DIAGNOSIS MASS Air Flow S
Contrary to the wing-meter air with their attempt vanes, MAF have no moving parts, so the only way to know if the device is working properly is to examine the sensor output, or its effect on the timing of the injector. With the Bosch hot-wire sensors, sensor output voltage can be read directly with a digital voltmeter by inserting the appropriate terminals. If the voltage readings are out of range or if the mass air flow sensor output voltage is not increased when the throttle is opened when the engine is running, the sensor is defective and must be replaced. A dirty line (which may be the result of a self-cleaning cycle defective or external contamination of wire) can make the sensor slow to respond to changes in airflow. A broken wire or burnt naturally avoid the sensor to work at all. The MAF sensor supply is through a pair of relays (one for power, one for the combustion cycle-off cleaning), so check first relay, if the MAF sensor seems to be dead or lethargic.
GM MAF sensor, there are some quick checks you can do to the problems of vibration sensor. Schedule an analog voltmeter to the appropriate terminal of the MAF sensor output. With the engine idling, the probe should be stable beyond 2.5 volts. Press lightly on the sensor and note the meter reading. A good mass air flow sensor should show no change. If the needle jumps analog and / or engine misfire in a moment, the sensor is bad and must be replaced. You can also check for problems associated with heat by heating the tube with a hair dryer and repeat the test. The same test can also be done using a frequency counter is read. The old AC Delco MAF sensors (like a 2.8L V6) should show a stable value of 30 to 50 Hz at idle and 70 to 75 Hz at 3,500 rpm. Units of the models (like a V6 3800) should be about 2.9 kHz and 5.0 kHz at idle to 3,500 rpm. If tapping on the MAF sensor produces a sudden change in signal frequency, it is time for a new sensor.
GM MAFS is a hot film, you can also take advantage of ALDL data stream with the reader, and read the mass air flow meter output of "grams per second (GPS), which corresponds to the frequency. The reading should go at least 4-8 up to 100-240 gps GPS throttle fully open.

Air flow direction through an add on air conditioning evaporator?
I have bought (second hand) an add on air conditoning unit. It is an Airfact unit but no direction of air flow is shown for the evaporator unit. Can anyone explain if this is critical and if so which side should be positioned next to the furnace unit and therfore be the "air in" side. One side viewed through the ducting is plain "finned" evaporator coil and the other side, through the ducting, has as well as the "finned" evaporator coil, a tangled mass of copper pipework and an item which appears to be a capillary thermostat unit. Would appreciate information on which way round this item should be installed. Thanks....................
Regardless of the type style and age, all air conditioning work the same the working physics are equal, the evaporator and condenser are two different working components, and do different things, the high pressure side is the condenser and will be the hot working portion when running,the evaporator is the low side or the cold working side of the unit, so in other words the high pressure side is the exhaust the outside part, the evaporator is the part the fan blows over because its cold and air travailing over and Thur it will bring cold air to you OK, follow me so far ? the coil of copper windings are the tubs where the freon travels Thur, and if full is charged with a high pressure of freon , so be careful, there are many types of freon and some where on the unit it will say R-12, R-502, R-13-A, something R even old units some use ammonia,remember anything finned requires air to travel Thur it, for it to work thats what the fins are for, they must be open enoff for air to go thru ok,
