How do you determine the classification of a screw?
I'm trying to replace a small screw on my airsoft gun (AGM M14, Lower Receiver Front End), but I don't know what type of screw it is. I have been unable to find the specific replacement part, but I have been able to find a long screw that does fit the threads.
It is a machine screw, but it is about 0.4cm wide. Does anyone know what that kind of screw is called?
Also, while tryin to find the right screw, I've noticed that some of them are listed like 1/2, 3/8, etc. Is that referring to the length of the screw?
You have a problem. Unfortunately, there are literarily thousands of different standards for machine screws. In the US and still in Britain, you have threads based on inches -- and there are at least a dozen different kinds. In the metric world, standardization has been more successful, but there are still a wide variety of pitches etc. If you have the screw, you can match its threads with one at a well-equipped hardware store. Put your screw threads up against what you think might be correct. If they fit into each other, you got it. Good luck.
